PREI’s duties:
- Adopt and implement the WESR in its full extent.
- Develop and implement routines and instructions for the safe operation of the electrical installation, during normal operation and troubleshooting.
- Establish routines for performance of an assessment of the electrical risks before carrying out any operation in the electrical installation.
- Establish routines to ensure that no person undertakes any work activity where technical knowledge or experience is needed to prevent electrical danger or injury.
- Nominate or establish a routine for nominating a person in control of the electrical installation during work activities, PCEI.
- Make a formal arrangement for consultation and cooperation between the PREI’s of each installation to ensure safety where two or more installations come together.
- Regulate and control who has access to all places where ordinary persons are exposed to electrical hazards.
- Establish routines for safe communication (transmission of information) in the organisation.
- Pre agree in advance which language that should be used to ensure understanding and comprehensibility in the case of the personnel in a work location speaking different languages.
- Establish routines to ensure that the work location:
- Is defined and marked clearly
- has adequate working space, means of access and lighting
- is clearly marked how to safely access the work location
- has suitable precautions to prevent injury to persons from other hazards that are present in the work location and work activity such as mechanical or pressure systems or falls
- is secured so that objects which impede access and/or flammable materials are not placed adjacent to nor in or on access ways, escape routes to and from electrical switchgear and control gear nor in those areas where personnel have to operate that equipment.
- is secured so that flammable materials are not stored next to or adjacent to electrical installations
- Establish routines to ensure that tools, equipment and devices are:
- used in accordance with the instructions and/or guidance provided by the manufacturer or supplier.

- maintained by inspection and testing and

- Assure that there are available up-to-date drawings and records for the electrical installation.
- Ensure that a risk assessment is carried out on the installation and that warning markings are affixed were necessary in order to warn or inform of risks associated with electricity at the installation.
- Established routines for developing and implementing suitable emergency arrangements for the case an electrical accident or incident takes place.
- Establish routines for reporting accidents, incidents and/or near misses.
- Assess the installation and determine what work that can be performed as an operational procedure and what tools should be used for each electrical installation.
- Establish routines so that the electrical installations are inspected at suitable intervals and the inspections are recorded.
- Establish maintenance routines (preventive and corrective maintenance) to keep the electrical installation in the required condition.
- Assess the installation and evaluate whether there can be sources of dangerous induction which can influence nearby installations.
