Protection by safety barrier

A barrier is a protective device providing protection against direct contact from any usual direction of access.

A safety barrier is a safety device intended to remind of the danger upon entering a specific area. It can for example be used when there is a risk for mix-up with an adjacent installation.

The boundary of the work location shall be defined precisely and clearly, and attention shall be drawn to unusual circumstances or conditions. The work location should be marked out by suitable barriers, ropes, flags, lamps, signs etc.

Adjacent live switch panels shall be distinguished by additional, clearly visible means, for example clear warning signs secured to the front of doors.
