Protection by safety screen

Protection by safety screen means applying a safety device that hinders anyone or anything from entering into the live working zone. The device can be permanent or temporary, insulated or not.

If the protection by safety screen fulfils the requirements on electrical insulation according to present standards, it may be placed within the live working zone. It shall not, however, be placed in direct contact with an energized part.

Applying a safety screen is considered to be safe if the safety screen is equipped with a control device (for example, a guiding device) and if the person installing the safety screen can stay completely outside the live working zone.

If the safety screen consists of a conductive material or its insulating properties are unreliable, the safety screen may only be applied in the vicinity zone (not in the live working zone). The installation of the screen shall be performed as Dead working, and in the case the screen is conductive, its shall be earthed.

If the safety screen needs to be removed during the ongoing work, it may only be carried out when the PCWA has given its consent. All workers shall be informed, and supervision arranged.

A temporary protection by safety screen shall be removed as soon as its purpose is fulfilled.

A safety screen that is used as a platform during work, shall be designed for the mechanical load.

When it is unclear whether the screen represents adequate protection to an energized part, a warning sign shall be applied.
